DAN IONESCU - Guitar - Romanian-born Dan Ionescu was acclaimed by jazz critics as the top Romanian jazz guitarist for 12 consecutive years. During that period, he recorded frequently at the National Radio Studios and for Romanian Television. Since arriving in Toronto in 1996, Mr. Ionescu has been very active in the jazz community performing at a variety of venues with local high profile musicians. He recently completed a very successful short tour of Japan. PAT LABARBERA - Saxophone/Flute - is considered one of the finest saxophonists in Canada and has been among the key members of the Toronto jazz scene for more than 25 years. Pat began teaching at Humber College in 1976, at York University in 1985, and at the University of Toronto in 1986. He has also taught privately, at the Banff SFA Jazz Workshop 1977-80 and 1987-8, and at McMaster University 1986-8. In 1977 he became an instructor at the Jamey Abersold summer jazz camps held on US university campuses and in the late 1980s taught at similar camps in Canada. He has also served widely as a clinician and adjudicator - eg, for MusicFest Canada. JOHN MACMURCHY - Saxophone/Clarinet/Flute - has performed and recorded in Canada, France, Great Britain, Greece and the KELLY JEFFERSON - Saxophone/Flute - has a Bachelor of Music from McGill University in Montreal and a Masters degree from Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Kelly has performed with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, The National Arts Centre Orchestra, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Maria Schneider, Bill Holman, Ray Anderson, Phil Woods, Clark Terry, Michel LeGrand, Nicholas Payton, Brian Blade, as well as Ray Brown, Sonny Fortune, Renee Rosnes, Russell Malone, and Dee Dee Bridgewater, among others. Kelly toured the U.S. and Europe for nine months in 2000 as the tenor saxophonist with legendary trumpeter Maynard Ferguson. Kelly has been nominated for Saxophonist of the Year by the National Jazz Awards in 2005, 2006 and 2007. DON ENGLERT - Saxophone/Flute - Studied music at California State University Northridge. He toured for nine years with bands such as Louis Bellson, Buddy Rich, and the Canadian rock band, Lighthouse. Since moving to Toronto, he has worked at the O'Keefe Centre, The Royal Alexandra Theatre, The Royal York Hotel and Hamilton Place. Don has performed with Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder. He has worked as a studio musician for the CBC in both television and radio and has performed on many film soundtracks and records. STEWART HOFFMAN - Vibraphone - Toronto-born vibraphonist and drummer Stewart Hoffman has a wide variety of musical experience. A graduate of the Juilliard School in New York City, he also studied jazz with vibraphonist David Friedman in both New York and at the Institute of Advanced Musical Studies in Montreux, Switzerland. He has backed headliners at Royal York's Imperial Room, performed musicals at the Stratford Festival, Petrolia’s Victoria Playhouse and Toronto's O'Keefe - now the Hummingbird - Centre, and was a member of the Orquesta Sinfonica de Maracaibo in Venezuela and the orchestra of the Festival de Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy. He has also performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the orchestras of the National Ballet of Canada and the Canadian Opera Company, and recorded for CBC radio and television. HARRY TIMMERMANS Saxophones/Flute A professional musician since the age of fifteen, Harry studied at Humber College with Pat LaBarbera and went on to perform with a number of well-known Toronto-based orchestras. He has played with the big bands of John Cheeseman and Bob Shaw, was a regular at the Old Mill for two years with the popular Allan Cohen Orchestra, and was also a memberof Canadian Conspiracy and Jimmy Eaves and Juggernaut. As a member of the Barry Romberg Band a band that was a finalist at theAlcan National Jazz Competition Harry toured Canada, performing at the Toronto and Montreal Jazz Festivals. A dedicated teacher, Harry was head of the instrumental department at Arts Education for Kids in Hawaii, and also taught at The York School in Toronto. He is currently a private instructor at Toronto’s Crescent School. KURT LUND - Saxophone/Flute - Following studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Kurt moved to Toronto and over the years has a well earned reputation as a creative, hard swinging saxophonist with a beautiful tone and great phrasing. He works steadily in the Toronto jazz and jobbing scene, in small ensembles on alto and tenor sax and as lead alto in several big bands.
